Education and Training

Education of orphans and vulnerable children: With grants from the Stephen Lewis Foundation, we have been able to provide scholastic materials to 30 orphans and vulnerable children in primary and secondary schools.  These funds provide children with a bag, shoes, books, geometry set, uniform, lunch fee and school fees. We also provide each family with an income generation project of their choice.  A private donor recently committed to supporting the annual school fees for 10 orphans on an ongoing basis, but the large number of orphans far outnumbers our limited funding and the need for support remains dire.

Another issue for the orphans and children living with HIV-AIDS is the lack of access to antiretroviral drugs.  In order to address the issue of orphans having to travel long distances to receive this medication, we have collaborated with Kasana Health center under the hospices of the Joint clinical Research center (JCRC) to provide care for these orphans. Plans are also underway to work with Mildmay International in ensuring that all children with HIV within Nakaseke District are reached and helped.

Last year we enrolled 64 new orphans and are still looking for support to enroll others into the program.
